Abstract: This paper briefly discusses data models' effects on database systems, and 
analyzes the different characteristics of petroleum exploration and production application
systems and their diverse requirements for databases. Also, it reviews the current 
situation and discusses the basic principles of petroleum data model standardization, 
and proposes suggestions for its future development.
